Overall, I'd say if you enjoy this type of game and you've got the money then get all of them, and if you don't have the money then you have bigger problems than anything I can help with (and I recommend sticking with the free version of hexceed in that case).Īlso, if you only use Linux you don't have a choice and can't play hexceed (at least yet), but both games support Windows and Mac.I remember the Total Annihilation AI my first year at university. Hexceed is free for the base game with future paid DLC, and all three Hexcells games together cost slightly more than the year 1 pass for hexceed.

The main difference so far in my experience is that Hexcells Infinite includes a random level generator with a (functionally) infinite number of levels, but of course those levels aren't designed by hand and so there is a certain monotony to playing them, while hexceed has far more hand-designed levels (even without counting future DLC) than all three Hexcells games put together. Both games offer boards in a huge variety of shapes and patterns as well. Both of them have well-designed and functional UIs without noticeable bugs (at least on the Windows versions).īoth games promise levels with unique solutions (and therefore no guessing needed to solve), and seem to actually keep this promise (so far as I have seen). There are also user interface differences, of course, which I am not very good at describing. There are special mechanics in both games that overlap with each other, and special mechanics unique to each game as well. Both this game and Hexcells are based on hexagonal minesweeper, but add different types of tiles with special mechanics.
